Summary:

Candidate must have a strong, solid background in purchasing, supply chain, inventory management, logistics and warehouse management.  The candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, make recommendations and implement changes. The role is key to leading the company forward in developing and managing the supply chain, controlling inventory and servicing internal and external clients. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions: Manager

  • Oversee and manage the purchasing and warehouse department personnel.
  • Mentor new employees, providing 'on the job' training to existing team members, and ensuring that the team is satisfactorily supported in their day to day work activities.
  • Provide direction and feedback on a constant and consistent basis to purchasing and warehouse personnel.
  • Foster close working relationships with internal branches and departments including Sales, Engineering, Production, Parts and Service.
  • Maintain an environment of health, safety and security.
  • Define and produce KPI reports and statistics regularly where required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions: Purchasing

  • Manage and control all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and parts required for the production and support of the company’s products.
  • Ensure parts and materials are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company's needs.
  • Identify new suppliers and negotiate supplier agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
  • Continually improve purchasing methods and drive down costs.
  • Carry out a comprehensive review of the Purchasing function and its methodology then identify and implement improvements.
  • Maintain stringent material control to assure company budgets and schedules are met. This includes spending, usage, scrap, and inventory levels.
  • Be fully conversant with modern procurement and purchasing techniques.
  • Manage resolutions related to Supplier Quality issues, ensuring timely and effective containment and long term resolution of each concern.
  • Manage inventory control and cycle count for parts inventory.

Essential Functions: Warehouse

  • Strategically manage warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and vision.
  • Oversee receiving, warehousing (inside warehouse and outside yard), shipping, and picking operations.
  • Review warehouse layout and ensure efficient space utilization
  • Review and refine warehouse operations process flow including product handling, storage requirements, and equipment utilization.
  • Manage stock control and reconcile with ERP/MRP system.
  • Review and manage point-of-use stocking programs including vendor managed inventory, consignment and Kanban.
  • Manage customer parts in will call area.
  • Manage logistics including vendor selection, prep and shipping for the company’s products using permitted heavy haul truck.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 7 years’ experience preferred.  Equivalent experience accepted.  
  • General knowledge of modern warehouse and inventory practices.
  • Know and adhere to all warehousing, handling and shipping regulatory requirements.
  • Certified Purchasing Manager preferred but not required
  • CPIM certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum of one year experience managing inventory
  • Five plus years’ experience as Manager or Buyer in related field (i.e. Manufacturing)
  • Extensive knowledge of ERP systems, Epicor preferred
  • High competency level in use of Microsoft Office and Project
  • Proven track record of controlling and reducing material costs
  • Strong leadership skills and proven experience in staff development 
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to overcome challenges and achieve results
  • Proven appreciation of customer service expectations and cost demands of business
  • Set priorities taking into account short and long-term needs of the business

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • This job operates in a variety of settings to include but not limited to an office setting, warehouse, and production facility, outdoors on a job site in hot, cold or inclement weather
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Requires frequent bending, stooping, lifting and carrying, reaching or handling with arms, hands and fingers
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to work with fingers (i.e. frequent typing)
